Harmful cat litter and poop? Seems answer would be obvious, but we have tried everything to keep our dog from eating cat poop! Higher areas, hard to reach places, and tricky or self cleaning box. Unfortunately nothing works and the new/improved self cleaning box requires crystal litter & is following over-strained safety guidelines to only clean 20 min. after sensor detects cats presence. Too late for my curious dog. The crystal litter is great for low odor (best I have ever used), but it seems there is no answer for keeping my dog safe from her appetite from these tootsie treats that come with harmful sprinkles. We adopted her from a dog farm/rescuer. She is a beautiful registered Weimaraner with amazing obedience, knows commands and has strict loyalty (surprising since she showed signs/reactions of abuse, was covered with ticks and rescuer was untruthful about age (said 2 but was 7 ).She is fed a high end and extremely expensive Natural Balance Limited Ingredients dog food w/ soft food alternated as treat. We had to start buying this $$$ food due to the fact she had ‘burn your eyebrows off gas’ even before the cat poop eating started (no people food, and doesn’t ask/beg for it). She is the most well mannered dog, loyal, obedient and loving. We can’t afford to reconstruct the house to accommodate cats, family and dog, so how can we keep her safe? Eating a little cat poop doesn’t concern me as much as the litter she must consume (thankfully she isn’t a kissy dog). It would be nice to stop habit altogether but main concern is protecting her from herself!

How many cats do you have?

Post pictures of your kitties!!

Haha oh well. As long as there isn’t cat poop everywhere and the house doesn’t stink. I’m good!

PS> This is the best invention EVER!!! I’ve had it for almost a year and I love it! No stink!

self cleaning cat litter boxes?

Has anyone tried the NEW LitterMaid box that s’pose to be more effective.. u can take the rake out .. etc? I tired it b/4 & wasn’t happy w/ it. I have switched to PetMate brand thru PetsMart & like much better but after a yr it’s wearing out. I have 2 of them & 6 cats sooo .. any help on the NEW one would be appreciated.

Self cleaning litter maid cat box question?

What type or brand of litter do you use? What is the best? I just purchased one & do not want to break it or anything. THANKS!

Self Cleaning Litter Boxes?

I am seriously considering a self cleaning litter box for my 2 kitties. There is, to my surprise, quite a selection out there! From what I understand, thus far~ Litter Maid is not a good choice, Scoop Free seems to have the most "good" reviews, Cat Genie & Litter Robot are ridiculous as far as price, Purrforma & Smart Scoop are kind of 1/2 & 1/2 on reviews, Litter Free company seems to either be out of business or they are now Cat Genie, Litter Sweep has mainly good reviews. . . . .

Has anyone ever tried a self cleaning litter box? Anyone have any recommendations? Honestly, my main "concern" is the smell factor~ of course I don’t enjoy cleaning litter boxes and if I can get one that will do it for me~ AWESOME! I just want to eliminate the litter box smell in my house; 2 cats= extra poo! However, I don’t want to spend $$ on a litter box that is going to die on me in a couple months.

Thanks!

I was looking to get one, I hear in order to avoid buying the cartridges you could just add more liter. Is this correct? On eBay I also saw this.

So would this be a good option?

Also can you just purchase the litter?

Self-cleaning/automatic litter box?

I have three cats and keeping up with their litter boxes can be a little crazy, especially when I go out of town. I was hoping to hear some feedback from people who have bought an automatic cleaning litter box for their cats.

What brand did you buy for your kitties?
How much was the product?
Could you use any litter for it or did you have to switch to a specific litter?
Did you have to buy any additional items for it?
Did you like the performance?
Did your cats use it?
Did you find it was more hassle than it was worth?
What was some good and bad qualities of it (pros and cons)?
Would you recommend it?

This and any other information you can tell me about your experience with the product would be helpful. Thanks!
Thanks to everyone who answered my question. For those of you who think I don’t love my cats & shouldn’t have so many, I’m not looking for your judgment. I love my cats very much & scoop their multiple litter boxes daily. My problem is that I am not home for 2 days out of the week. My husband does not like to help me with the litter boxes. This poses a big problem for me since we are currently talking about starting a family. I was basically looking for an easier way to deal with him having to clean the litter boxes. And I am currently owned by 3 rescued, unconditional love giving, spayed & neutered, claws intact, house DLHs, who I have a screened in porch for, that they very much enjoy. So please don’t act like I view my cats as inconveniences, because I surely do not.

When I only had one cat, I tried to toilet train him. Joined the yahoo group for it and everything. We eventually got to one of the final steps and could not make the transition to only the toilet. Thanks

I am sick of buying tons of kitty liners & garbage bags for my kittys litter…
I saw this on walmart.com and was wondering is it worth it???

Are they easy to take care of?

Self Cleaning Litter Box?

Has anyone ever used the self cleaning litter box from abc distributing?? I like the idea of not having to actually scoop it and the electric ones scar the cats. I just wanted to see if anyone has used it before I purchase – thanks!
