My family has three cats living in one house, this was never a problem until one cat started going to the bathroom outside of the litter box. The other two have now picked up on it, and they go to the bathroom anywhere they think is a good spot. The litter box stays clean (it is a automatic-self cleaning one), all we have to do is empty the cart when it is full, and it is fairly big for one box, so I don’t think overcrowding has anything to do with it ( I know you are suppose to get 1 cat box per 2 cats). How exactly do I go about letting these cats know that I’m not going to play by their rules anymore? What steps can I take to show them that going outside of the box to go to the bathroom is just not happening anymore?

I have never been satisfied with my cat’s litter box. I have tried every single kind of litter which my kitty probably hates me for though she doesn’t seem to outwardly mind. I’ve cleaned it with chlorine, kitchen soap, put newspaper down, tried washing the surrounding area weekly, washing the scooper… But some how I’m still not happy with it. So what do all you guys do when it’s that time of the month (or you know hopefully the week) to clean the cat box?
Looking for some tips that might make things easier. I’ve found that since putting newspaper down the bottoms a lot easier to clean but I’m not exactly sure how much litter to put each time?
And what’s your position on clumping litter? Yeh or neh?
And really what in the world are the differences between all the different types?
Do you use a special soap?
Share with me anything you’ve discovered over the years xD
And is that silicon litter stuff really any better?
I like it because it doesn’t clump and it makes things look alot dirtier which makes me clean it more.
What do you think about the different prices on litter?
Do you do anything about your cats feet or rump after she uses the litter box? I have a long haired cat and I usually have to cut her back side because her poo will get stuck in her fur.
Any help is great and thanks for taking the time to answer =3
I scoop it out about every day =3
Also what do you do with the poo? What kind of bag do you use, just the super market plastic bags?

I have bought the orignial littermaid self cleaning cat box and it was great, but then the rake wasn’t working properly. It was flinging the clumps across the room and not into the waste receptical. I then whent out and bought the littermaid elite series. Unfortunatly this one is not raking the clumps into the receptical but leaving them behind in the box. Dose anyone else have experiance with this product that can offer some sugestions? I have already contated the maufacturer on-line but am waiting for a respone. Your help is greatly appreciated.
I know that it is not the litter, previously I was using the armenhamer litter. However when I purchased the elite I made sure to also use the littermaid breand litter.
The kitty is also very good about covering her "presents".
Thanks for the suggestions.

I have two male cats and the cat box is gross. They pee a lot and I wonder if an auto-cleaning litter box would be able to clean up after them. If you have used one, please let me know how you like it and if your cats were OK with it.
a little background info: I am mostly looking for something that I can leave on during the day and then just dump what has been pre-scooped when I get home from work. The cats are brothers so they have no problem sharing, but the last thing I want is for the box to scare them so they stop using it! Thank you for the helpful comments.
